Their relationship began when Jack talked Rose off the back of the Titanic after seeing her life “as if I’d already lived it”. She pretends to be “annoyed” by him, but his freedom and vitality draws her to him and she realises she longs to be more like him - “why can’t I be more like you Jack. Just head out on the horizon whenever I felt like it.” Jack sees Rose as “a spoilt brat”, but falls in love with her special “fire within”.
ROSE: You’re crazy!
JACK: With all due respect miss, I’m not the one
hanging off the back of a ship.
ROSE: Promise we'll go there one day, to that
pier.
JACK: We will.
ROSE: Don't come any closer. I'll let go.
JACK: No you won't.
ROSE: You don't know me, don't presume to tell me
what I will and won't do.
JACK: Ice-fishing is where -
ROSE: I know what ice fishing is!
JACK: Sorry, you just kinda seemed an indoors girl.
ROSE: You like this girl. You’ve used her a lot.
JACK: She had great hands.
ROSE: I think you had a love affair with her.
JACK: No, just with her hands. She was a one-legged
prostitute - see?
ROSE: Oh!
JACK: None of that side-saddle stuff.

ROSE: When the ship docks, I'm getting off with
you.
JACK: This is crazy!
ROSE: I know and it doesn't make any sense - that's why I
trust it.
ROSE: I couldn’t go. Oh God, I couldn’t go
Jack.
JACK: We’re gonna make it Rose, trust me.
ROSE: I trust you!
JACK: Promise me that you'll never give up, no
matter how hopeless.
ROSE: I promise
JACK: And never let go of that promise.
ROSE: I'll never let go, Jack.
