ROSE DEWITT BUKATER

Kate Winslet

Profile

Rose is a rich snob. This has been forced upon Rose since a young age by her mother, Ruth ("I was everything a well brought-up girl should be"). She feels trapped and does not love her fiance', Caledon Hockley. Her mother is, again, forcing her to marry Hockley because when Rose's father died he left them debts and the marriage to Hockley would "ensure our survival." But Rose has a "fire" and will suffocated if she does not escape her mother's and Cal's "narrow" little lives.
