The White Star Line Employees

Profile of Captain Edward J Smith (Bernard Hill)

Long time employee Captain EJ Smith is planning retirement after the Titanic's maiden voyage. He is a sea veteran and the most admired of all the White Star Line's Captain, he was the natural choice for Titanic. But with all his knowledge, it turned out "everything he knew was wrong."

ISMAY: Freud? Is he a passenger?

ISMAY: We must give them something new to write. The maiden voyage of Titanic must make headlines.

CAP. SMITH: Take her sea Mr Murdoch, let’s stretch her legs.

Profile of J. Bruce Ismay (Jonathan Hyde)

Head of the White Star Line and the man who came up with the idea (and the name) of Titanic, he insists on making it to New York in record time. He advised Captain Smith to light the last three boilers, intedning to suprise everyone by arriving in NY a day early. He did end up getting headlines, but not the sort he was after.

ANDREWS: Sleep soundly young Rose. I have built you a good ship, strong and and true. She’s all the lifeboat you need.

LOOKOUT 1: Look at that would ya?
LOOKOUT 2: They’re a bloody sight warmer than us
LOOKOUT 1: Well if that’s what it takes to get warm, I’d rather not if it’s all the same.

LOOKOUT: Smell ice, can ya?

ISMAY: This ship can’t sink!
ANDREWS: She’s made of iron, I assure you, she can.......and will.

CAP. SMITH: It seems you will get your headlines after all Mr Ismay.

ANDREWS: Where are all the passengers?
CREWMAN: Went back inside. Too damn cold and noisy for them.

Profile of Thomas Andrews (Victor Garber)

Whilst Ismay came up with the Titanic idea, Andrews made the idea a reality. As Titanic's designer, he spent the trip analysing and making recommendations. He was last seen in a state of shock as the ship he built sank from underneath him.
